Our Beliefs

Our Purpose

Our sole purpose is to glorify God who is revealed in His Holy Scriptures as the only true and living God, who made the world and all things therein. While the Lord of heaven and earth has revealed Himself in creation and by the living Word, who is the Lord Jesus Christ, the chief revelation of God is to be found in the written Word, the Holy Bible. In order to glorify God Almighty, we exist to promote His worship for His glory, to edify the saints by the faithful ministry of the Word of God and to evangelize lost sinners by the bold proclamation of the Gospel.

Our Pillars

At the outset of Brussels Community Bible Chapel, four pillars were adopted as the biblical priorities for this ministry. A more complete statement is available upon request.

To lift high the name of Jesus Christ in worship. (John 12:32; 4:23, 24)
To preach the authority of God's Word without apology. (Hebrews 4:12; II Timothy 4:1-5)
To share the Gospel of Jesus Christ with boldness and work toward producing disciples. (Romans 1:16; Matthew 9:36-38)
A firm belief in accessing God's power through prayer (James 5:16; Jeremiah 33:3)

Doctrinal Statement

BCBC accepts the Holy Scriptures as the only supreme and complete authority in all matters of faith, doctrine and practice. The following is the church’s basic statement of faith to which every member must subscribe without reservation.

The Scriptures

We believe the Bible, the sixty-six books of the Old Testament and New Testament to be the complete word of God: as originally written, the Bible is verbally inspired by the Spirit of God and are inerrant and infallible. the Bible is the final authority in all matters of faith and practice.

God

We believe in the only true God (John 17:3), the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit (Matthew 28:19-20). He created all things (Revelation 4:11) and upholds all things by the Word of His power (Hebrews 1:3). He is holy, sovereign, eternal; perfect in all His ways.

We believe that the Godhead eternally exists in three persons, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit; and that these three are one God, having precisely the same nature, attributes, and perfections, and worthy of precisely the same worship, confidence, and obedience (Mark 12:29; John 1:1-4; Matthew 29:19-20; Acts 4:3-4).

Jesus Christ

We believe in the full deity of the Lord Jesus Christ; in His eternal existence with the Father in pre-incarnate glory; in His virgin birth, sinless life, substitutionary death, bodily resurrection, triumphant ascension, intercessory ministry and personal return. He is the manifestation of God in the flesh He is both true God and true man (John 1:1, 14, 18; John 14:8, 9; I Timothy 3:16).

Holy Spirit

We believe in the full deity and personality of the Holy Spirit, who convicts of sin, regenerates, sanctifies, illuminates, comforts and indwells those who believe and in Jesus Christ.

Satan

We believe that Satan exists as an evil personality, is the originator of sin, the arch-enemy of God and man.

Man

We believe that Adam and Eve were divinely created in the image of God, that they sinned, becoming guilty before God and plunged the entire human race into sin; The unredeemed are not only sinners by constraint, but by choice and therefore under just condemnation without defense or excuse. We believe that without exception every man is totally depraved, cannot please God of themselves and can only be saved by the grace of God. (Genesis 3:1-6; Romans 3:10-19; Romans 1:18, 32).

Salvation

We believe that salvation is by the grace of God alone, through faith alone and not by works, That by the appointment of the Father Christ suffered a substitutionary death for sinners; that salvation is by faith alone in the all-sufficient sacrifice and resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ. That all that the Father saves are eternally secure as children of God and finally perfected in the image of the Lord. We believe the Holy Spirit immerses a person who believes into the body of Christ at the moment of salvation (Romans 8:37-39; II Corinthians 5:21; I Corinthians 12:13).

Holiness of Life

We believe that those who are saved will show that their faith is genuine by walking in obedience to the commands of the Lord: that although perfection is not attainable in this life, the desire of the believer, empowered by the Holy Spirit is to be conformed increasingly to the likeness of Christ.

Resurrection

We believe in the resurrection of the crucified body of our Lord Jesus Christ, His ascension into heaven, and His present life for us as High Priest and Advocate (Acts 1:3, 9; Hebrews 7:25, 26).

Heaven, Hell and the Return of Christ

We believe in the “blessed hope”: the imminent, personal, bodily and glorious return of the Lord Jesus Christ, in the bodily resurrection of both the saved and the lost. The saved are raised to eternal, conscious bliss in heaven (Matthew 25:34; John 14:2; 2 Corinthians 5:1;Revelation 2:7) The lost are raised to eternal torment in hell in conscious separation from God.(Matthew 8:11; Matthew 10:28; Matthew 13:49-50; Mark 9:47-48; Luke 12:5; Revelation 21:8).

Creation, Evolution and God’s Sovereignty

We believe God created the universe in six 24-hour days and that, before He created the universe, nothing except God existed (Genesis 1; Exodus 31:17; Psalm 33:6-9; Acts 17:24; Hebrews 11:3; Colossians 1:16). God chose to create the universe and all that is in it to reveal His glory, divine nature, eternal power, infinite wisdom and supreme authority. (Isaiah 43:7; Psalm 19:1-2; Jeremiah 10:12; Romans 1:20; Revelation 4:11). We deny the theory of evolution, which states that nonliving substances gave rise to the first living material, which then reproduced and diversified to produce all living creatures.

We believe that all people are descendants of Adam and Eve, whom God created personally and individually and as complete human beings (Genesis 1:26-27; Genesis 2:7; Genesis 2:21-22; 1 Corinthians 11:8-9). The fall of Adam and Eve infected all people with sin and death, but the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ gives the opportunity to receive God’s gift of eternal life. (Romans 5:18-19; 1 Corinthians 15:21-22).

God rules over His creation and cares about and is involved in the lives of individual people (Job 12:10; Acts 17:25; Acts 25:28; Colossians 1:17; Hebrews 1:13; Ephesians 4:6).

The Local Church

We believe the church is a group of believers, baptized by immersion, called out from the world, separated unto the Lord Jesus Christ, voluntarily associated for the ministry of the Word of God, the mutual edification of the saints, the propagation of the faith and the observance of the ordinances. We believe that the church is a sovereign, independent body, exercising its own divinely appointed gifts, precepts and privileges under the lordship of Christ the Head of the church. We believe that there are two offices of the church elders (pastors) and deacons.

Ordinances

We believe that there are only two ordinances for the church regularly observed in the New Testament. They are commanded by the Lord, but have no efficacy in themselves.

*Baptism, which is the immersion of a believer in water, whereby he obeys Christ’s command and displays their identification with Christ in His death, burial and resurrection.

*The Lord’s Supper, which is the memorial wherein believer’s partake of the bread and wine symbolizing the Lord’s body and shed blood, proclaiming His death until He returns.

The Lord’s Day

We believe that the first day of the week is the Lord’s Day for public worship. It is the believer’s privilege and duty to attend the regular meeting of the church that day.
